97 automatic shudders

Asked by Bf3087 Dec 19, 2020 at 06:26 AM about the 1997 Ford Mustang Convertible RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just purchased a 97 3.8 L Automatic
Noticed it shudders once its going about 70km
Stopped at a transmission mechanic and he's saying its the
torque converter . also said the transmission fluid looks like
it has not been touched for years.
My question is could fresh fluids  potently fix the shudders
or will I be doing more damage and there's no way to avoid
fixing it?

I would trust your mechanic. If you have around $100 and you want to try changing the fluid and filter and see if that helps and might fix it the shutter, then by all means go ahead. IT can't hurt at this point to try. But don't be upset about spending the money if it doesn't work and you end up rebuilding the transmission.
