Asked by Keppers Mar 19, 2021 at 06:16 PM about the 1997 Ford Mustang Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Can a 2000 3.8l mustang motor fit into a 1997 ford
mustang 3.8l. And can I swap everything over from the 97
hardware and put it on the motor out of a 2000. Intake
manual transmission ect.

Yes, it will all bolt up because it is the same motor. The difference is the intake manifold. The 2000 has a better intake manifold than the 1997 model.

Will all my electronics plug into the intake or would I need to get an adapter plate for the 97 intake

The throttle body sensors will be in a different place as well as the coil assembly. Some minor arrangement and you don't need an adapter plate!

You may want to swap out the accessories so that everything hooks up correctly.
