My eclipse will go into reverse but not into drive, if i keep going thru the gears it will go into drive. if i take it out it wont go back into drive

I want to add some info...the car also has sport shifter, and a few days ago I could get it into 1st gear and move it over into Drive and it would be fine. If I go thru the gears enough it will go into Drive and be fine, but as soon as I take it out of gear it wont go back in and also the lights on my dash arent lit up. Thats how I know when it goes in because my "D" on the dash will light up
