The light blinking is telling you there is and issue with the transmission,go have it scanned to let you no what the problem is,may just be a sensor problem.

Was wondering, could a bad neutral safety switch cause any of this?

The neutral switch will cause a cranking issue, but doe,s not have any thing to do with the tranny not going in to gear.

mine is a 2007 eclipse spyder and it goes in revers just fine but when I put it into drive it don't want to go and when it goes its super slow when the car gets going it shifts hard and the D (drive) stars flashing and its like its stuck in 3rd because when I put it in the manual option 3 is blinking it will go to 1st and 2nd but not past 3rd but when I get going its fine I just bought this car alittle over a month ago and my first payment is coming up this month and it sucks cause im scared its going to be something major
