Hood release

Asked by grduprey Sep 04, 2009 at 04:01 PM about the 1985 Pontiac Fiero SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My hood release is jammed, how can I get it opened? The car has sat for 4 years, the cables seem to not move and not
sure if latch is rusted.

The latch is in the center of the hood near the windshield. The cable actually runs outside the rubber gasket near the cowl on the driver side. You may be able to cut the casing and pull the cable from there to get the latch to release. There is also a cable connector just inside the gasket near the latch where the release cable seperates. The hood does flex a little and you may be able to access and disconnect there to pull with pliers or some other device if you can get the gasket to move and get under the hood there. Otherwise the latch is held on with two nuts but not sure even if you can get them off if the latch will come off while still attached
