The cables will not release the front hood locking mechanism

if you can remove the grill without opening the hood, you might get to the hood latch. also, if you can see up under there from under the car, you can make a hook out of stiff wire and pull on the cable or release mechanism at the latch.

86 Fiero hood latch is at the back of the hood, about 4” in and slightly off center. My latch mechanism rusted solid and the cables would not release it. The solution is to use a 10mm ratchet wrench about 6” long and remove the 2 bolts that hold the striker bar to the hood. A small inspection camera was very helpful in determining where the bolts were and placing the wrench correctly. Once you get the hood open, remove the latch and soak it in “Rust-B-gone” or other commercial rust remover.
