Can I disconnect the alarm on my 1999 new beetle? Can't afford to take it to the garage, but the alarm was going off every 5 mins so I had to disconnect the battery to silence it.

My car alarm is going off every 5 mins and is running down the battery (as well as
annoying me and my neighbours).  I could only silence it by disconnecting the battery.  If I
silence the alarm, the lights will still flash and flatten the battery.  I don't have any spare
funds to take it to the garage but I need my car for work as I work until 1 or 2am and taxis
cost a fortune.  Is there anything I can do as a temporary repair until I can afford a
mechanic?

If its an aftermarket alarm it should have a seperate fuse, I would try to locate and remove the fuse to keep the alarm from engaging.

I just got a 99 beetle and was having problems as well realized if you lock it from the inside or if you pull the handle before you've unlocked it with the remote it will alarm mine was going off also annoying my neighbors. I also found I was accidentally hitting the alarm button on the side of my key fob hope that helps
