My 1999 Beetle 2.0 is so low to the ground, we've cracked the oilpan. How do I replace it? I've got the new oil pan and gasket, now what? Its automatic and someone said we have to drop the transmission to do it. Help!
Sounds like a pretty big job. You should get your hands on a Chilton or Haynes manual (or both!) for such a big job. Either manual will tell you how to proceed.
Here in Prince George, B.C. a local metal fabricating firm has designed a metal plate to protect the underside of my 1998 Beetle. It protects from rocks and ice. I have driven the car year round for almost 17 years over all kinds of terrain. The metal plate protects the oil pan from damage.
