Asked by Jul 17, 2017 at 05:19 AM about the 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 Convertible FWD

Question type: General

When I come to a fast stop or try to accelerate my car
putt putt and shuts off, any idea on what it could be.

Could be a number of things, TPS, IAC, Throttle body, I recommend that you have the vehicle live data scanned, then the tech can see in actual time what is happening with the sensors, wiring and computers response to those readings. Who knows it could just be a ground wire moving back forth causing an intermittent circuit failure.

If it cuts out cold, it could be electrical/computer related, follow Tennisshoes suggestion about the live scanning to know for sure. If it "putt-putts" to a stop it sounds like the engine is lugging, caused by a transmission not downshifting, or TCC (torque converter clutch) not slipping when it should. (
