Should I Buy for my first car?

Asked by DOE Sep 29, 2020 at 08:46 PM about the 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix 2 Dr GTP Supercharged Coupe

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Should I buy a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP
Supercharged 2 door coupe with 200k miles
for $1,000. Clean title, clean interior and
exterior, no problems runs clean. but 200k
miles. The seller said the car should last at
least 100k more miles and if I maintain it will it
will go 200k more. This going to be my first
car and I ain’t really drive that far so 100k
miles will last me at least 4 years but will it
really last 100k-200k more miles. How many
miles do you think it will last in total? Do you
think I should get this as my first car?

Can you afford to lose the money tomorrow? If not don't buy it.

Not a smart choice for a first car, that's a high maintenance car to begin with, let alone for being a 21 yr old 200K mile car. Keep looking. PS: don't fret over your first car lasting "another 100k miles", this is not going to be your "forever car." Buy something reasonable and expect to upgrade within a year or two.
