Dear maverick22-- Both the Kelley Blue Book and the NADA guides say that your 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix is worth over $2,000, even with that kind of mileage. Of course at that price you can expect to incur some maintenance costs as you own it. Don't worry about the major items, like the engine and transmission, as much as the little stuff. Power window motors, wiper motors, power seat motors, and stuff like that can nickel and dime you to death. Good luck from Bovan.

No, I bought one in good running shape, a 1999 model and have had to do all kinds of repairs on the little stuff, i.e. brake lines, power windows switch ($103 for the switch itself). Engine belt, blower motor. Kelly Blue Book is way out of wack on the Pontiac. I only paid $1,200 for the 1999 Grand Prix with 151K and new tires and brakes.

Every used car is different and it all depends on how the previous owner took care of the car. The 3800 is an amazing engine. Gets 30+ MPG on the highway and have logged over 300,000 miles on mine. So I'd say they are a reliable engine. Just make sure the intake gaskets have been changed and you will be good to go for a long time ahead.

Thanks for your response guys. I asked this question around 5 years ago, and end up not buying that car anyways.

My 2000 has 233k on it now and runs perfectly. No drips no leaks, starts perfectly (I have remote)
