One thing about trucks is tat there's always a bunch of debris/mud slung up into the rear fenders and bumpers. If not cleaned out often, it causes rot in everything, including wiring and light fixtures. You probably have a rotted out ground, power wiring, or wire connection, or the bulb sockets themselves. Or it might be simpler; a brake light switch on the brake peddle that's broken or out of adjustment.
