Tranny/transfer case

Asked by Coolweatherj Jan 26, 2019 at 07:00 PM about the 1994 GMC Sierra 1500 K1500 SL 4WD Extended Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Does the transmission and transfer case require different fluids? I believe I'm leaking from tranny to transfer case. Mostly because of the extra fluid in the transfer case last fluid change. I couldn't believe how much came out after pulling the fill plug. It would help if so until I can get the seal changed.

I have different in there now. Transfer case has something recommended from Napa. It's also blue, which I've never seen and have been worried to even engage the 4x4. It specifically says not to mix with atf. I have to flush that out and was hoping to put the same as the tranny. Otherwise the fun task of pulling the case to Chang the seal.

Also the fluid that was in the case, wasn't blue. This truck has been a project the last 2 months and I'm running out of ideas and answers.
