Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 GMC SIERRA 1500. It is a 4 wheel drive. I am
wondering if both the transfer case and the transmission
can go out at the same time.  The shop I have it in says I
need to replace both. Anyone heard of both going out at
same time?

Of course it is possible. If you do not believe them get another quote.

I am going to get another quote from another shop. I've heard from multiple mechanics and doing research that it is very rare for the transfer case to go bad on my vehicle. Transmission going out is very common problem, but not transfer case. So since multiple people are telling me this is rare (you're in the minority telling me they both can go out at the same time). So off I go to get another quote.
