engine keeps cutting out

Asked by Apr 02, 2016 at 07:50 AM about the 2002 Audi A4

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I hope someone can help me.
I recently bought an Audi A4 2L. It was working
fine then the check engine sign came on, I was told
it needed a service and thought I would get it done,
however the engine would cut out as I was driving.
There was no warning and all the internal lights
would still be on, just all of a sudden it would cut
out. I wasn't able to restart for another 5 mins. The
cutting out go worse and worse over 3 days until it
would drive a few feet and cut out again. Can
someone please help me try and work out what the
problem could be? Where I could find it and how
much it would cost to fix ? It would be a huge help,

Since the Service engine light is on, that means the computer has stored codes as to what your issue is. Have the car scanned for the codes and we can help further. Could be one of a 100 things. Your local auto parts store will do this for free, post the codes back here. No way to know the cost either without knowing the issue. Could be a sensor or something more serious. If a SEL comes on and the car is driving fine, you can get it looked at later, but if there is drivability problems like you had, best to get it into the shop ASAP as you found out.

Don't buy a used Audi- 9 out of 10 times a person is just trying to crawl out from under a financial nightmare- now it is yours-
