Why a software update for Grand Cherokee jeep

Two updates, one for the Uconnect navigation and infotainment system and one for the engine management system. The Uconnect it basically for maps updates. The one for engine management is suppose to cure the engine dying and hard restart and cruise control problems plus some other electrical issues.
