Grinding noise when using remote ?

I have a 2001 Pontiac Firebird V-6. when I use the remote to lock the car
there is a grinding noise in the area of the headlights.. They sometimes
pop up or flash on. I'm thinking there is something electrical shorting out
causing the gears with the headlamp motor to grind because of the plastic
teeth not seating and might need replacement. Finding this seems to be a
common problem but no solutions for repairing... How can I identify this
problem and repair it?

Just the normal plastic gear failure and every plastic gear will fail, just a matter of the polymeric mixture... and cycles it can make before its done.
