i was told by the dealership that it takse about 30 mins. to do this 1. insert key turn to on position for 10 mins. 2. turn off fror 10 secs. 3 repeat this two more times in succession

This worked for me, but I only had to leave it on for 10 minutes (turn off your lights, heater and radio of course). I was able to turn the key to the off position, all the way and eject the key. It maybe a security lock message (guessing) being sent to the computer and it times out after so many minutes.

The thirty minute cycle works only if your G6 is made in the USA if your VIN number starts with 1 or 4 you can do it this way
