I'm considering buying a used Pontiac G-6. Am I getting a potential problem since Pontiac is no longer?

Nope not at all. The G-6 is the same platform as the Chevy Malibu and they still make that car. Any mechanical parts(wheel bearings, thermostats, engine/transmission/suspension parts ect) that will need to be replaced down the road can be bought at ANY auto parts store.

Exactly, my father is restoring a 1958 Star Chief. A 1 year only body style car for Pontiac and he can still find everything for it because of places like EBay, car shows, swap meets and specialty web sites for older cars.
