69 Chevy Chevelle Battery Issues

Asked by Lewis Jul 18, 2020 at 05:00 PM about the 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Sport Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Battery keeps dying with in a matter of hours. I disconnected the battery
thrusday evening with the disconnect and about 36hrs later, this morning,
the battery is completely dead again. (obivous issue with the disconnect i
have fixed that) There is something hooked up in the car that is draining the
battery. Any ideas what could be drawing/draining that much power?
Nothing is being left on, I have checked and double checked. The battery is
good, been tested 3x and charged three times but is completely drained
within a matter of hours if left hooked up. Any thoughts or advice will help.
Thanks in advance.

Look on the web for how to find a parasitic battery drain. You will need a multi meter which you can pick up for 10 to 20 dollars.

As G A said, plus if you have an aftermarket stereo, that would be my second suspect. Third would be the clock, if equipped. The clock has a set of contact points inside of it to automatically wind up the clock every two minutes or so. If the points get stuck together it will cause a battery drain. You should also check for the trunk light staying on or a map light staying on. Hope that helps! Jim
