1998 ford mustang

Asked by Mar 12, 2017 at 01:40 PM about the 1998 Ford Mustang Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1998 Ford Mustang with 127,000 on it. On
cold days it takes 4-5 turns of key before the car
starts. I have a new fuel filter, spark plugs, spark
wires, ignition coil, fuel pressure is good, battery,
alternator, and starter. Car runs great once started
but has trouble once sitting and gets cold. Is it
electrical or am I missing something.

4-5 turns of the key before starting indicates a fuel issue to me. You are losing pressure and turning the key back and forth activates the fuel pump, priming the fuel system. You said fuel pressure was good, did you test it with a fuel pressure gauge? What was the pressure? Did you let it sit for a couple minutes to see if it dropped?

Tom Thank you for help. I have been out of town and with the snow I drive my truck. I will double check the fuel pressure gauge again after the car gets cold compared to when it is warm and see how that goes. Again thank you for all your help.
