2018 Toyota Camry Water Pump code

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2018 Toyota Camry: Just recently the service engine light came on. Took it to
Auto Zone to run a free check. Got a code for the water pump. No water
leaking, no overheating, not sure why this code would show up. The car does
have 70,200 miles on it. I change the oil every 10,000 and get the tires rotated.
I am confused, why would this code show up if no sign of leakage from the car.

What code do you have? Sometimes the 18 year old counter person at your local auto parts store doesn't always have the correct definition for a trouble code! Jim

This is, in fact, a water pump code. You have an electric water pump and the code is telling us the water pump is not working properly. The good news is it's covered by Toyota's Federal Emissions warranty. The warranty is for 96 months or 80,000 miles from the original date the vehicle was first sold new. So visit your local Toyota Dealer and have it fixed for free! They should refer to service bulletin 0323 17. Hope that helps! Jim

They said that it is only the hybrid Camry that is covered because they are the only one's with an electric water pump. So, I am looking at $800.00 for water pump and service.

Ok, so then why are you getting the P26CB trouble code if your Camry doesn't have the electric water pump? The regular 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder Camrys have a conventional water pump that's not controlled by the computer! So if a component is not controlled by the computer it can't set a trouble code. Something is not right here! Call Toyota Customer Service with your VIN and see what they say! Please keep us posted on this!! Some dealers will do anything to weasel out of doing warranty work!! Hello Jim; I scheduled an appointment for the car on Friday. So, we shall see what this Toyota dealership has to say about the problem. On another note, do you have any good suggestions of where to shop for a new or rebuilt engine for a 2006 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V6 4X4?

Sounds good! Hopefully you have good news for us! Actually, I'd suggest your local auto parts store for a rebuilt engine. Most have a 3 year or 36,000 mile warranty and are rebuilt by reputable companies. I work for Napa and we sell rebuilt engines from time to time. In the 15 years I've been working there I only remember 2 coming back defective. Hope that helps! Jim

Hello Jim Well they were getting the code for the coolant. It was low but there was no visible leak. They blew it out and refilled it again. Found that coolant was getting into the engine. We will need a new engine. :(

Hello Jim This is Stephanie. This is what I found as far as recall. Can a defective fuel pump cause this to happen to my engine? They say there is a knocking in the engine. But t It wasn’t doing that when I drove it in.

Thanks for the update!! Very sorry to hear about the engine!! Unfortunately, from what I've just read you're out of warranty! Visit carcomplaints.com and see if there's any recalls that might help you! This is very disappointing news!! Toyota has been at the top of the list for reliability for many years!! I also hope the Dealer is willing to help you out on this!! Is this a head gasket failure? Intake manifold gasket failure? Or something else? Jim

Why replace the engine when the problem is likely just a head gasket? Dealers love to tell you it will take a new $8,000 engine when a grand for a head gasket is all you need. Get another opinion!

Not likely the fuel pump could cause this. The knocking is probably from the engine oil being contaminated with coolant. My Nephew had a 2000 Grand Prix that the intake manifold gaskets failed. This resulted in coolant getting into the engine and causing a spun bearing. The knocking on his car started after he spent the money to have the intake gaskets replaced. It's not uncommon for this to happen when coolant gets into the crankcase. So sorry about this!! Jim

2018 Camry with new Dynamic Force 2.5 liter A25A-FKS engine (non-hybrid) with D-4S does in fact have an electric water pump!

Your 2018 Camry 2.5's electric water pump is fine... The ECU simply needs to be recalibrated to address its constant speed problem, as per T-SB-0323-17. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2017/MC-10140594-9999.pdf
