Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My water pump is leaking and needs to be
replaced, do you have to replace the timing belt
when u replace a water pump? Is changing a
water pump a big job? What all does changing
a water pump intel?

The water pump is internal meaning you would need to replace the water pump and belt at the same time. It is probably a bigger job than you would want to tackle unless you have a good bit of mechanical experience. The good news is the parts kit is less than a $100 on Amazon.

So when I get the water pump replaced I have to get the timing belt replaced too? I'm not doing the work I'm just asking questions before I have someone else do it. I'm trying to do it cheapest as possible because I have replaced the alternator and radiator 6 weeks ago!

I'm not sure the motor, just a standard 4 cylinder. I have 110,000 on this motor, but 160,000 on the body. When we bought it my ex husband put a motor in it. He is a mechanic but won't help me fix it even though I take care of our 3 year old son! Awesome man right??

I agree withe opinions stated above. If a water pump needs replacement....your should replace the Timing Belt because the Mechanic is right there and must disconnect the belt it in order to replace the Water Pump. Good Luck.
