Why does my van have a sweet smell?

Asked by Organfinatic Sep 23, 2020 at 03:52 AM about the 2017 Kia Sedona LX Plus

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2017 Kia Sedona has developed a sweet smell
whenever we arrive home and turn off the engine. That
normally indicates a coolant leak, at least that's what I have
been reading. I checked my coolant levels, the reservoir is
in between the full and low marks. The van only has 31700
miles, and we are the second owners. Would this be
covered under Kia's warranty, or am I paying out of pocket
for something like this?

I think your on target, have the dealer check it out. As far as repair coverage, I would think it would be under the manufacturers warranty, but the dealer would be able to assist you.

If happened to be a bad water pump, would I experience overheating? I have experienced any over heating issues. Normally the temp gauge runs right below the half mark on the temp gauge.

Once the coolant level gets low enough you will have overheating. Don't wait for that to happen as the engine may not survive one overheat.
