1989 Chevy Cheyenne 1500

My speedometer only works when it wants to. Any
help would be appreciated.

Check your cable on the back of the cluster panel and transmission and condition of the cable. I'm unsure for that year if it's an electronic speedometer, if it is it's possible circuit board failure or dead diode. And also check your fuses.

I had this problem and he is right there’s a little plastic gear that was wore out and when I fixed it it works fine
