89 chevy 1500 fuek gauge not working after new unit installed

Asked by Rick Oct 25, 2020 at 06:46 PM about the 1989 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Silverado RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced my fuel pump assembly because of leaking lines, new pump works great fuel gauge is not working. I have tried two units. Put old pump back in and now have my fuel level. Any idea why new units didn't work, seems strange both new assemblies did not work. The new units are from NAPA, after market.

old unit still works with level indication, so I am assuming ground and wiring harness good. New unit fuel pump works fine but no level indication. Common ground for both.
