Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hey guys so I have a 94 Chevy 1500 and am
having transmission issues.  The I bought
the truck it had the 700r4 in it which it was
supposed to have the 4l60. The
transmission was shifting a little hard but
still working until bam the transmission
wouldn't get out of second gear...  In drive
and overdrive it would go from first to
second but then would hit like a neutral state
and not shift into 3rd. I put a 4l60 in and now
it is doing the same exact thing.  What could
be my problem? 1st 2nd and reverse works
fine just won't catch 3rd to go to 4th. My
speedometer doesn't work also... Any advice
is much appreciated.

Yes I used the new converter and still the same problem. I failed to mention that the 700r4 went out right after I nose dive the truck in the bar ditch. After that hard hit it would not shift into third. Now after replacing the transmission and it having the same problem leads me to believe that when I nose dive something came loose or unplugged... I have no idea.

The 700 R 4 has a throttle cable which is attached to the tranny and has to be adjusted with the engine off throttle wide open and cable from the tranny pulled all out , Failure to properly adjust this properly can cause the tranny to fail PS Find a mechanic that knows what he's doing Back Yard mechanic's don't have a CLUE

Where is this cable located? I was told the 94 did not have this cable and is electric now.

It's a 4 L 60 E the E stands for Electronic , The 700 R 4 is the one with the kick down cable and that's why the 700 R 4 failed

my 94 c1500 does the same thing it will shift into 1st then 2nd then bounce from 3rd to 2nd but it seems that if i put it into 2nd gear directly it will stay go to 2nd then go up to 3rd and stay not sure about that the truck has a 350 in it and the stock v6 computer would that do it

My truck would not shift out of 1st gear, fluid and reverse all good, speed odometer not working, looked at the plug on the side of the transmission, it was ok, looked back a foot away. Mice chewed thru one of the wires. Spliced with butt splices, everything is good now. This truck sits parked most of the time. Bill
