Transmission not shifting out of first gear

This is exactly what my truck is doing 96 k1500 have rebuilt transmission and still have the same problem. Did you find out what it was? I dont know what to do anymore.

I had the same issue. It was the vss. Easy to replace and inexpensive

I replaced the vss. Replaced the shift solenoids. Changed filter and fluid and truck still will not shift from 1st to 2nd until I let go of the gas. Smh guess next step is just taking it to a transmission guy.

A torque converter replacement is what you need

replace the throttle position sensor should run you between $20 and $50 thats what worked for my 97 k1500 silverado

My 2010 Savana will not shift out of first unless I use the manual but as soon as it does I can put it in drive and everything's fine what do you think it needs

I have a 97 z71 Silverado 1st and 2md gear shift fine but when i put it in 3rd and overdrive it will work for a min then it don't wanna go into gear i hit the gas n then it will go into gear. Can anyone tell me what could cause this?

My 4l60e won’t shift into 2 3 or 4 but will go in reverse and neutral? what could it possibly be, new tranny ? the trasmisson doesn’t make any funny noises

My 97 Tahoe shifts 1st and second just fine. From second it either goes to nothing and rpms go up or it just stays in 2nd. Replaced trans with a new one and still have the same problem. Anyone have any ideas.

Speed control sensor less than 100.00 and simple to change.

i have a 1990 c1500, it has this problem too. i let off the gas and when the rpms go back down it shift . it normally only happens going up hill also. any ideas?

did any one ever find out why you cant get it to shift out of first into second without the rpm high?? im having the same issue, my tranny was rebuilt just over a year ago

i had the transmission rebuilt about 16 months ago. ibhave changed the fluid about 6 months ago

its 1st to second, not higher gears

It is a PCM problem disconnect the negative battery cable wait 30 seconds it will probably come out of limp mode

97 k1500 305. Issues shifting from 1-2 2-3 3-2, lack of acceleration and lurching on the highway. Wasn't even driveable. No codes ever, other than abs... 1.Tested all solenoids and checked valve body for burs or deep scratches as well as check ball wear and tear. Everything passed 2. Checked vss, had abs light on, changed ds front vss. Abs light went off, stays off, that's it. 3. Full air intake cleaning, maf, filter... 4. Spark plugs, fuel filter, clean throttle body 5.tested tps, passed. After fighting this damn truck for a week, we asked a fellow mechanic down the road to look at it and bounce some ideas off him. He suggested to take a heat/infrared gun to the exaust pipes. He then told us that if you notice your cat is way hotter than anything else you got a clogged cat, ours was about 114°f hotter than the headers. Well, 1 sawzall blade and 2 welds later, the cat was deleted truck was full straight pipe and all the driving issues were gone!!! Loud af though If you are having this issue. Check your cat for excessive heat first! Cheap, easy, maybe even free to do, before you start throwing parts at it. If it's hot, cut it out, keep the 02 sensor, buy a $40 cheap muffler if you want and boom

First & reverse are one thing; higher gears are another. If the transmission has problems shifting to second and higher gears, it's likely a shift solenoid problem that was caused by lack of servicing the transmission. You'll probably find fluid that's low, dirty, or even burned, and if you have a filter, it's clogged. This can cause a transmission with even new shift solenoids to malfunction. Replace the fluid and if necessary, flush the transmission.

My 1998 460le transmission only has first gear and reverse!! I have always had to hand shift the blazer because of hard shifting but it shifts Smooth by hand, I didn't disconnect the battery and and changed the filter and transmission fluid and ever since it only has first gear and reverse but it ran fine before hand!! have already replaced the VSS all shift solenoids the transmission filter (again) and even took the battery out for over two months when you start out in first gear and hand shift it to Second the ABS light will come on, start flashing and when you pull it back down to First the light goes off!! but it will not shift out of first gear!?! but once you stop you can put it in reverse and it'll go in reverse fine. Any ideas? I'm lost.

Well, it's probably the original automatic transmission: 24 years old, and I'm guessing it has a LOT of miles. dirty fluid and time will erode seals, and it might be leaking seals that are causing the transmission to leak pressure between gears. That hard shifting is one symptom, and the ease of hand shifting is another..... The flashing brake light that appears when upshifting could signify a vacuum leak.
