cause the ex has no vtec and even if it was the sohc vtec is intake only and you wont hear a difference and barely feel a diff
um actually they are wrong your vtec solenoid could be bad and not working i am a proud owner of a 98 honda civic ex d16y8 VTEC and yes it is a VTEC indeed and i can tell a diff in the sound as it kicks in right around 5,500 RPM!!
