What is a reasonable down payment on a car or truck

You could go to local credit union or bank and get pre-certified for a loan. This will help you to shop and stay on budget. Happy hunting.

It all depends who is bank rolling the purchase of your new car. If your parents are paying for it, you may get by with zero down. My guess is that a young person purchasing a $40K vehicle, the dealership is going to demand 20% down. Maybe more.
