Misfire cylinder 3 2000 dodge Dakota 3.9

Asked by Evan Aug 01, 2017 at 11:14 PM about the 2000 Dodge Dakota SLT Quad Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Dakota has a really rough idle and throws a
misfire cylinder 3 code. Every time I clean a sensor
or change out a part the truck runs beautifully for
about 2 days then throws the code and the rough
idle starts. Generally only happens when it is hot
outside. The symptoms point to a bad EGR valve
but they stopped putting them on these around 95.
Replaced:
Plugs
Wires
Cap and rotor
Ignition coil
I cleaned the throttle body, IAC, TPS, cam position
sensor, MAP sensor and the evap system.
I really don't know what to check for next

so today I took the lifters and valve springs out of the engine and cleaned them since they were covered in sludge and although some of the power is back the misfire continues
