dodge dakota 3.9 distributors

Asked by Dak3 Sep 28, 2018 at 09:30 PM about the 2002 Dodge Dakota Sport Quad Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Are the distributors in the 97 dodge Dakota 3.9 different from the distributor in the 2002 Dakota 3.9 or are the harnesses just different? I recently swap engines in my son's 02 quad Dakota 3.9 with a 97 Dakota 3.9 that I had in another Dakota. Both truck was running until the engine in the 02 blew.  When I put the engine in,  I found that the wiring connections were different. I replaced the Alt, Starter, A/C compressor with the ones from original engine and changed the pickup from the original distributor into the 97 distributor so the connectors would fit. When I tried to start the truck it wouldn't start and didn't have fuel pressure or spark. So I'm thinking the pickup isn't working with the plate inside the 97 distributor. Need some help Please
