My truck will not start at all.

Asked by Bobby Apr 14, 2016 at 07:31 PM about the 1989 Ford F-150 XL Standard Cab 4WD SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1989 ford f150 Lariat 300 6 cylinder 4X4 will not turn over when i turn
the key .I have replaced the fuel pump, the sending unit in the tank, the
solenoid starter switch, and the ignition switch that is located on the
steering column. I have also checked all the fuses. The fuel pump will still
not turn on. The thing is if i touch the ignition switch post on the solenoid to
the ground post on the solenoid the fuel pump will run. If i bypass the
solenoid the truck will turn over but it wont crank and the fuel pump wont
run either.

this could be way out there, but try checking your inertia switch, or fuel shutoff switch. it is designed to shut off spark and fuel in the event of an accident, but sometimes they get weak and fail. on your truck I think it Is on the firewall under the dash, drivers side. on some models it is under the dash on the passengerside near the hump just above the carpet, and on other models it is under the passenger side kick panel. wouldn't hurt to check it.

We found the problem. The battery was not grounded to the truck so the circuit wasn't being completed.
