Starter problems

Asked by 1988fordf150 Oct 05, 2017 at 09:46 PM about the 1988 Ford F-150 XLT Standard Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 88 Ford f 150 , 4.9 straight six. I had the
flywheel replaced and it still doesn't want to start
correctly. Put new starter on it twice so far another
first few times starting sounds great. Then after
that it sounds like it is grinding or the starter just
makes a winding sound like its not hitting anything.
Any suggestions on what to do next. Thanks

Test your voltage, without the proper voltage the gear may not deploy out far enough. If the voltage is low, it's either the voltage regulator, the starter solenoid or a connection issue between the battery, these named components and the stater itsself. Good luck!
