1988 GMC C1500 Pickup Overheating After Engine Replaced

Asked by Kev1973 Aug 10, 2017 at 11:55 PM about the 1988 GMC Sierra 1500 C1500 Standard Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I put a 1996 and up motor in my 1988 gmc c1500
with a new water pump, thermostat, heater core,
new hoses, and new fan clutch. The temperature
will over heat and you can cut the truck off for a few
minutes, crank it back up and the temperature will
go down to around 195 degrees. I can't figure it out,
can anyone help?

Can you tell if the fans are turning on when they should? If not might be a controller or module issue versus mechanical issue.

It doesn't have electric fanes it has a clutch fan with a heavy duty clutch I just put on new and it works

I have the same problem with my 1988 GMC and have changed my thermostat out 4 times but still have the same problem.
