Squeaking cowl of a 81 z-28

Asked by GuruH5GDB Jul 06, 2019 at 09:22 AM about the 1981 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1981 z-28 Camaro with many
squeaks and rattles. One is the cowl to cabin.
There is a Seam just below the windshield
where the two body parts meet. If I spray
wd40 like product there the noise goes away.
I want to know what can of worms i’d Be
opening if I ran a bead of weld where there
are currently spot welds. Any thoughts.

I doubt WD40 would fix that and would likely only make a mess. Try a 2nd Gen Camaro forum, and see if a squeak from the cowl area is a common issue or related to a body panel seam or spot welds. I really don't see that being the case, far more likely you have a body bushing that has degraded, and there are two directly below the cowl area on these bodies. I would also be certain to eliminate suspension components being responsible for the squeak, especially sway links.
