Jeep Cherokee overheating

Asked by GuruXHM7M Oct 30, 2018 at 01:33 PM about the 2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic 4-Door RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Flushed the system took out thermostat radiator is
fairly new. When it overheats it fills water overflow
tank. I also put a new water pump in it and
discovered the old one had all but one fin missing.
I was willing to bet that fixed the problem? Nope!!
Out of ideas here. I see many other people posting
the same problem but cannot get a definite answer
to why this keeps happening.

Make sure your radiator cooling fan is coming on. It runs off a fuse, a relay and a sensor. Some Jeeps had a belt drive fan on a thermostatic clutch. When hot, that fan should spin fast and howl where you race the engine. Also replace radiator cap if in poor shape, only $5 most places. Don't overheat the 2000- 2002 six cylinder 4.0 liter engine as they are prone to crack the head easily between cylinder #3 and #4. Thank China for that.
