Check engine light comes on and off

Ford Escape 2012 all wheel drive when I'm
driving it cuts out and then it start running
again and then it cuts out and it'll start
running again anyone know what the
problem could be

The check engine light indicates an OBD trouble code has been set, so go and get the code read. A parts store can read it for free, or take it to a mechanic or dealership for a proper diagnosis. No sense guessing what the problem is, since the code is there to tell you.
