If I'm being completely real here, I've lived in Alaska my whole life and I've never once used a block heater unless its on my Diesel. You'll be fine without one but if you really want that extra comfort go get a space heater and put it inside you're garage or wherever you want it to be. I'm assuming you have a garage because you'd be crazy to not have one in a place as cold as ND or AK.

There are also the type that you install in a radiator hose. Local mechanics will know exactly what to do.
