A dealer memo had a recall on the 2.4L for engine fires up to '06, There have been problems with excessive oil consumption and sludge documented as well. Chrysler uses this engine in many models, PT Cruiser, Breeze, Voyager, Avenger, Sebring, etc. with modifications, so there can be many variables. If you own a model with this engine, (or the 2.7L),using 100% synthetic oil, and changing it sooner than the 6-7K suggested may preserve it.
