What is causing my door to not open?

Asked by Los76 Dec 02, 2017 at 10:58 AM about the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Crew Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have been able to pull the panel back and get a cam down there to see what is going on.  I can see that both the cable and rod are working but the door will not open.  If the door latch itself is broken, how would I be able to get the door open?

you'll have to pull the panel to see what's broken , small linkages with funky clips , Utoob has many videos on a variety of car repairs , , usually there's a screw near the handle that you pull on that has to be removed and then it's a bunch of plastic clips/grommets connected to the panel that hank away from the door ,

Thanks but I've done all of that already. I have a feeling that it has to do with the actual locking/unlocking. Not too sure though.

Does it not open by ANY handle? Are all locking rods attached - there's at least two. If you can see where a rod connects to the lock assembly, and they've become detached, get a tool down in there and push/pull that point. Some lock assembly's have a screwdriver slot (or philips slot) on the inside so a screwdriver can twist them open. The real challenge is getting past the door panel when you can't fully remove it with door closed.

Thanks Ken. Yes the lock assembly is fully attached and no it does not open by either of the handles.

Alright I figured it out!!!! The rod that goes to the outside handle was not set correctly so i pulled up and I heard a click then I pushed it down and the door opened!!! Thanks for the ideas. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas
