Should i buy a cadillac with over heat problem

He only wants 300 says his micanaic looked at it
just needs water pump but also the check engine
lights on just don't want to make a bigger problem
for myself

For 300, if it runs/drives you can't really miss, unless it's a basket case. If you want to know for certain talk to the mechanic directly.

No, don't waste your money. The Northstar engines in these cars are prone to all kinds of issues. Google Northstar engine problems and do some reading.

No, no, no and NO!! It's going to be a head gasket!! All Northstar engines blow head gaskets sooner or later!! You're looking at upwards of $3500 to fix it!! For starters both the engine and transmission have to be removed from the bottom of the car. There is NO other way. Then the block has to be repaired with the "button kit" because the head bolts pull out of the block!! It's a major repair requiring the knowledge and skills of someone who is familiar with these engines! Do not buy it!! HTH. -Jim
