RPM lowers very slowly to Idle

Asked by thebigkc Oct 13, 2014 at 01:32 PM about the 2007 Jeep Liberty Limited 4WD

Question type: General

My 2007 Jeep Liberty PRM lowers to idle at a very slow rate. It takes 30 seconds or so to lower from 2500 to 600. Is this normal?

No, this is not normal. While in "park" As soon as you let off of the accelerator, the RPM's should drop to idle within a few seconds.

The dealer where I bought it told me that since it is a four wheel drive vehicle, this is normal. Should I believe them? .....or should I get an opinion from the Chrysler Corporation? Thank you.

Being 4 wheel drive would have nothing to do with your RPM's hanging. If you are in park, the engine is disengaged from the transmission/drivetrain and should not hang at 2500 RPM. It could be a mechanical throttle issue or throttle sensor/servo hanging up.
