My 2009 Dodge Charger srt8 seems to be pinging
or knocking when at freeway speeds but not idling.

What octane fuel are you using. That car requires premium.

I’m using 91 which is the best my city has to offer. It’s strange to me because it’s only on the freeway. And it’s subtle and kinda fades in and out

olgeezer, it has nothing to do with the governor. Octane ratings change with elevation. The higher above mean sea level you go the less dense the air and the lower the octane requirement is. Cities along the coasts have 93 available, here in Kansas we have 91 octane. As for the SRT8, I might try a spark plug change and check to see that the air filter is not dirty.
