My 2009 Impala 3.5 V6 engine takes only 4 quarts of oil when doing an oil and filter change. If I have it changed at a garage they usually overfill by putting 5 quarts in.

yea they average 4 and half quarts , most people just do even amounts dont care about accurate

The next time you have it changed I would tell them to not overfill it.

They actually take about 4.25 qts to be full, so a service shop will charge you for 5. Another example of the oil companies being in bed with the auto manufacturers, the engines should take an even amount, especially when synthetics are being used. They'll charge you another $6-$7 dollars for the qt when you only need a bit more to fill the engine.

If this is in the owner's manual, I couldn't find it. Guess the people at GM think Chevy owners are too dumb to change their own oil. Eric

Learn to change your own. I got lazy one...well more once and let Walmart change my wife's Honda both times they over filled it...never will let anyone unless I am to old to do it myself.

To Larry never ever let Walmart touch your car engine I worked at Walmart for 19 yrs and they screwed up more cars than one to much oil not refilling the oil back in leaving the screw to the oil pan out not putting filters back in burning up peoples engines
