Engine Oil in my coolant

Asked by GuruTCJN3 Jun 25, 2019 at 04:31 PM about the 2008 Ford Edge SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2008 Ford Edge SE and I have
engine oil in the coolant.  The engine does
not over heat; however, it purges the milky
colored oil due to overflow.  Does anyone
know what might be causing this?

I believe your Edge has the 3.5 Duratec engine which has the water pump in a location that when it fails, oil gets in the coolant and coolant gets into the oil, which can ruin the engine. Don't run it anymore until your mechanic can figure out what's happening.

Thanks for your response. The water pump was changed about three weeks ago.

I would not say the water pump failed that fast, but if it was done wrong, it could still leak like I described, ruining the engine. Make your mechanic aware of what's going on as I believe your engine will be ruined with coolant in the oil no matter the reason.
