How to determine which mechanic is right?

Asked by L. Apr 05, 2024 at 07:51 PM about the 2008 Toyota Camry LE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

what causes speed, rpm to fluctuate, ac increase and decease going from
cold to warm, brake light is off and on and ABS light is on.
1st mechanic : replace ABS module, change speed sensor,  and wheel
bearing and brake bleed costing thousands.( bottom of quote , said may
need cluster)
2nd mechanic said it is alternator (changed out 21/2 yrs ago)

Box Store 1 scan picked up C1241, U0073 and C0200
Box Store 2  scan said alternator faulty
This is something my husband would have handled, not sure how to
proceed.

Fluctuating readings and ac function could be from an alternator going out. Even if you replaced it recently, if it was other than NEW, like rebuilt or reconditioned, it could have been bad even out of the box. That code C1241 points to that. The ABS problem probably stems from a defective wheel sensor, code C0200. Start with a new, and I mean NEW alternator and go from there.
