Limp mode with no lights or codes.

Asked by Shawn Mar 28, 2020 at 02:29 AM about the 2004 Ford Explorer XLT Sport V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Wow do I have a problem. One day as I was driving
my explorer home it suddenly had rpm going up but
the mph going down from 40 to about 20. No o/d
no check engine light, no codes. Researched and
figured it was in limp mode but I don’t know the
cause and don’t wanna throw money and it. I
recently replace to egr valve about a month ago but
I just lost and need help!

Limp mode limits RPMs, not just speed. If you're RPMs are still up but speed drops, I would suspect the transmission or torque converter. A lot of tranny troubles won't show up as a code, since the OBD system is geared towards emissions.
