Catalytic Converter - vs- Mufflers... Or BOTH?

I have a 93 Chevy K1500 Silverado that has 248K on it.    I think the time has come to put a New
Catalytic Converter in it.  Right now it looks like it is just a Catalytic Converter off the Manifold to a Y-
pipe or (x-pipe).  I was wondering what would you do for the new Exhaust system (without breaking the
Bank)?  I read and hear so many options and opinions I just don't know what is best.  Is it better to have
NO cat and only Mufflers or a Cat and NO Muffler or Both?    I really liked the Rumbling sound I already
have on the Truck.

If you are passing emission test, than the cat is not borke, if its not broke than don't fix it. Also, you like the sound that its making now, any aftermarket exhaust installed will make it louder. How much longer are you planning to own the vehicle?? Its already 20yrs old.
