Fuel pump failing when starting in cold weather at high altitude

Asked by rybu8828 Jan 10, 2018 at 01:36 PM about the 2007 MINI Cooper S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The car will turn over but not start due to lack of fuel to the engine. Last time a
MINI mechanic drove to my house and used a screwdriver to start it from
inside the car while the key was in the ignition.

I don't know how you can start a car with a failing fuel pump from inside the car with a screw driver. I think he did something else.

I believe that the fuel pump is the culprit here. The fuel lines should also be checked, high altitude has thinner air and the freezing temps could be frozen in the lines. I have no idea what the tech did with the screwdriver in the car !
